I was curious if His Majesty, King Neptune :royal:, and his royal lackies :jester: ...er...retainers :sheik: including Natasha have ever considered planning a group dive trip for the denizens of this meeting place?

I'd really enjoy meeting some of the regulars, and sharing experiences face-to-face and mask-to-mask.

Any thoughts from the throne?

TexasMike,

I'd be up for a ScubaBoard dive. How about four regional dives? I'd be willing to host a northern/midwestern dive day up here on the Great Lakes (probably in southern Lake Michigan). We could have another on the Atlantic seaboard, one down south and one on the West coast. I'd be willing to fly out for diving in southern California or Seattle or a wreck dive in the east. It would also be really cool if the Eurodivers put together something over there. If airfare's cheap enough, I'd like to come down to Texas too to dive the oil rigs, missle silo or whatever else you guys have down there.

Hey Mike,

Count me in. Anything significant, such as Bonaire needs to be after the 1st of the new year.

Jimbo :)

The Belize trip sounds interesting. Natasha...Any more spots available?

HI,
I just saw this post today, so I'm a bit late. Yes, when the KING and I met in his Royal quarters we talked about putting group Scuba Source trips together.
As Warhammer said, I worked on 4 such trips, blocked and held space, and even put a deposit down to hold them.
Alas, we might have been a bit ahead of ourselves. We could not fill the trips.
Only the BVI trip filled and that was with my already existing dive clients that have booked group dive trips with me for years.
Of course I can send people on trips that I do not escort, but for me to escort them, throw a party like I do for all my groups, and make up group dive T shirts, we need to have at least 12 divers go.
I do have more then 12 now for another trip I will post soon. It's going to be to COZUMEL March 2nd to March 9th. I'm waiting for the final contract to post the prices. But I do have 18 people that have already dove with me committing to this trip. I will take 30 total. There will be two dive boats dedicated just to our group.
I'm hoping to go back to Bonaire fall of 2002.
Belize is a great dive spot too. But at this time I have only 4 others interested. Maybe I posted it too early? I hope it will fill up.
While I have read that people don't like "cattle boats" there is a lot to be said about diving with a group of people.
The ocean mysteriously makes people bond. On past groups everyone got close so fast. You never have to worry about the boat leaving you. And you always have a dive buddy. It's great not eating alone. And shopping alone. We have always been spoiled because we were a "group" and hotels and dive operators love group business. We also ALWAYS tip very well. The dive masters and boat captains, and tank fillers, love it when we have the end of the week party, and pass out envelopes full of money for them.
Hope you'll join us on a future trip.

TexasMike,

I have been reading your post on the Texas Swamp Divers and would like to know if you would take in another from a foreign state. I am from just north of the Red River, and the Springs dive you wrote about sounded real interesting.
Let me know if you would accept a foreigner amongst your ranks.

Have never dove any of the lakes and swamps of Texas but am familiar with all the diveable water here. Maybe a trip to Broken Bow would be considered. Hell or anywhere there is enough water to submerge would work!

I might be speaking out of turn here, but since it’s a free board, I’ll say what’s on my mind anyway. And I mean no offense to anyone. When I think of a group of friends going on a dive trip, and I do believe that’s what we all are “friends”, it’s a trip where we get together, decide where we want to go, who we want to dive with, and split the costs amongst ourselves equally. Of course you can’t do this with things like airfare, but you can with hotels, boats, and etc. If the resort or whatever we stay in offers extras for our group, like a couple of free rooms or something, then we use those free rooms to reduce everyone’s cost. Or in other words, nobody gets a free ride and costs are kept to a bare minimum. Anything that would mean more money should be left up to each individual or put to a “group” vote. Now I know that typically when you book a group trip, like through your LDS for instance, that someone always leads the group (usually the sponsor) and has their expense paid for doing so and the LDS makes money off the trip. That’s all fine and good, and I go on some these trips with my LDS. But that’s different the way I see it. That’s not a group of friends sharing costs, that’s a business offering a service to it’s customers for a price. The Diverlink bunch do these type trips and have had a lot of success with them and so has the groups on other boards. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work here as well. Just my $.02.

Afraid TexasMike is out doing the Flower Gardens. (poor guy)

How far (time-wise) are ya from Dallas? Most of the Swamp Diver crew is north of Dallas in the Denton - Decatur area. Heck you're prob. closer to them than I am.

We're looking at doing a Rig dive Sept. 8 out of Aransas Pass. (See the posts under the Texas Rig heading in the North America section) But I'm sure we'll be diving before then!! A return to Terrell on 7/15 is tentative.

Myself, I'd like to check out Lake Murray again. I tried it once last year, but we couldn't find an airfill and the vis was pretty bad. It was late August and the local lakes were pretty green by then, too. Plus we didn't do any research - just hopped in the truck and drove up there. (DUMB)

I will be happy to host a dive in the Pacific Northwest if y'all are wanting to do regional dive. Do you want Shore? Boat? Wreck? All skill levels? Puget Sound OK? Canada?
