I see that the Ikelite housing for the Canon G5X is out. (At least, B&H shows it in stock.) Just wondering if anyone has one yet, and what they might think about it. Recsea website is also showing a housing for the G5X, but I presume it has not been released yet.

hi Jpowers.

I've used the Ikelite & Recsea G7X housings, the G5X housings are similar. The Recsea housing is ready, I could order one for you. Both will work well with the camera - the Recsea housing is more expensive but much smaller and lighter.

Just received my customer's Ikelite Canon G5X housing and will be delivering and setting it up this week :)

Certainly compact enough and the hot shoe circuitry means no waiting for anything except the Ikelite TTL strobe to recycle. Easy to install with their new front loading design.
I shot the Canon G7X quite a bit last year below and above and this same 1" sensor and Canon colors will deliver great pics also I'm sure.

Thanks, Scott and David.

I'm drawn to the Ikelite housing as I'm currently using Ikelite strobes with a Canon 40d and Tokina 10-17 fisheye in an Ikelite housing. I think I'd find it hard to go back to having to wait for an internal flash to recycle.

The main reason that I'm considering going back to a compact camera, aside from the bulk of the DSLR, is that I miss the zoom range that I used to have with my old Canon A570 and Inon fisheye UFL-165. That silly little camera has a lot going for it, not the least of which was that I could use the entire 35-140mm zoom range and come in pretty tight even with the fisheye wet lens on. And, as my prime area of interest has always been wrecks and other CFWA, I never took the wet lens off.

Any thoughts on fisheye wet lenses for the the Ikelite G5X that would work without vignetting and still let me get the whole zoom range?

Jim

I'm a big fan of the wired strobe setup, not heating up the inside of the housing with the internal strobe, not depleting the battery of the camera, and not having to wait for the slower recycle time makes it a pretty big win, so I'm super interested in the G5X or the G3X housings. What I really want though is for Ikelite to get a vacuum test system in place like Nauticam has, that would sell me in a heartbeat.
