Kids don't have a natural tendency to be fearful though, that seems to come with experiencing fearful situations or witnessing this behaviour from others (the docs on the boards could shed more light on this one I think)
My kids are divers - started at ages 12 & 14, are now 14 & 16yrs old. They have no fear of the water and diving is natural to them as fish having gills. The challenge here then was to help them to develop respect for the water - that it is fun, but 'serious fun'.
I make it a point of discussing dive incidents that we hear about so they can draw on some kind of incident exposure that doesn't scare them, but helps to put diving in the proper perspective.
Really happy that the anxiety has lessoned and somewhat under control.
