That is a great idea if taking a taxi from the airport. It's not far from the airport and only minimally out of the way for the driver. It's the second most modern grocery store that I know of on the island, the first being the Eldon's in French Harbor. But that one is a lot out of the way. There are also some gas station/convenience stores between the airport and AKR that are nice and right on the way. One is just past the road going to the landfill.
Does AKR not pick up guests in a shuttle? Forgive the questions ... I've never stayed there. I generally go for the clinic when my ears act up or to the gift shop.

AKR meets you and grabs all the baggage with green tags as soon as you walk out of customs at the terminal. Your green-tagged bags magically show up in your room sometime the afternoon of your arrival. Did I mention using the green tags?

Water at AKR is OK (they say as much on the web site)

They do. But I don't think they'd go out of the way to stop at Eldin's or even stop at the convenience store on the way. If the shuttle is full, there wouldn't be room for very much else what with the people and luggage on board.

But I don't suppose it would hurt to ask.

I have some specific questions if anybody knows...
1. Off the wall question, but can you flush the TP? (l know you cannot at Sea Grape)
2. Is the restaurant now at ground level? (I heard it was once up a lot of stairs)
3. Can you completely trust the drinking water at the resort?
4. How much for local beer at the resort?
5. Can you snorkel directly from the resort, and is it worthwhile?
6. Can you walk to a grocery/liquor store?

Thanks!
I'm on the property now, so I'll answer some of my own questions:
1. Yes, you can flush the TP. There are no signs saying "don't", and they do not mention it at check-in.
2. Yes, the restaurant is at sea-level. NO STAIRS! There is still a lively bar up the hill where the restaurant used to be.
3. There are purified water stations around the property. Bring your own water bottle, as they do not sell single-serve water on the property. Time will tell if the water is to be trusted, but I think they take the topic seriously. They told me the tap water is chlorinated so it can be used to brush your teeth but it might taste funny (like chlorine.)
4. $4 for Salva Vida and Barena on the property. Both are decent "beach/pool" beers.
6. YES! There is a huge grocery/liquor store about a 10 to 12 minute walk away. It's not a flat walk (you have to crest a hill each way), and there is no sidewalk but there is a wide shoulder on the road. They sell cold Salva Vida 18-packs for $15 USD. Can't beat that! They had all kinds of liquor, wine, food, fresh produce, etc. Here's a map:
