Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, it's another one of those threads. But this one is for me! :D

My old Sherwood Brut first stage needs rebuilt, again. It got some water in the first stage (my fault, forgot to put the dust cap on before I soaked it!!) and now it is whistling again. For the price of a rebuild, (second one in a year, third one in the lifetime I have owned it.. 13 years), I can be on my way to a new reg.
So, this is my needs: Something durable enough to handle beach diving. Lots of it. I mostly am a warm water, tropical diver, keeping within recreational limits. I do not plan on pursuing tech. diving, however, I can see a cavern course in my future. Yes, I do dive some springs on a limited basis. My biggest concern is the beach diving. Sand. Lots of it.
Any suggestions?

Get the $60 1st from 123Scuba. I've been using 4 of them for a few years now for everything from pure o2 on down. Bulletproof.

Budget? Frugal is always better! LOL. If somebody had an extra laying around and were willing to sell very cheap (as long at it worked properly), would be my first choice.

Jenny, I think any 2nd stage is going to be vulnerable to sand. For your 1st stage you make well want to look at something sealed. A Scubapro Mk17, for example. It's the same as a Mk 11, with the addition of an environmental seal. This may help reduce issues with the 1st stage when used for frequent shore dives.

Thanks Stu, that is the kind of information I was looking for.

I bought a Mk11 for my wife last year. Good reg. If we ever dive where sealing it is an issue, it becomes a Mk 17 with the addition of the seal, $30 or so. Up here it's not an issue, but if we move down there & do a lot of beach entry dives I'll prolly add that seal to it.

The Mk 11/17 is not a turret design, if that matters to you.
