I've been interested in taking up spearfishing for some time, and I think I'm finally ready to get started.

I really have no idea where to start. I'd be doing all of my fishing in Puget Sound, primarily for rockfish, greenling and lingcod. Those of you who dive in PS know what the vis is like - I honestly can't see myself taking shots of longer than 10-15 feet, and I certainly have no problem with getting closer.

I've thought about getting started with a pole spear and targeting the smaller fish, which of course would limit the range.

Anyone have some sage advice?

Your luck a huge halibut will be right in your face having a pole spear . Find out what the seasoned hunters have in your area and buy what they are using . Good luck
