Hello all,

I said hi in another post before I saw this forum, so I'll just say hello again.

Just a little about me first. I'm 28, soon to be 29 on March 11th. I work at an entertainment software juggernaut. I've been interested in diving since I was a wee lad, after I watched my first Custeau special. I was probably the only person my age that knew what SCUBA stood for, and (at least partially) how a 2nd stage worked. I haven't had the time or oppotunity to learn till recently.

I took my OW course in November and I was pretty much hooked when I stuck my head under-water in the pool and breathed in. I live in B.C. Canada so the water is pretty cold.

I haven't had the chance to go diving again yet but I'm slowly buying more gear.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give me.

Thx

Hellow fellow Canuck, welcome back to the real world. So far this has been a great forum. As far as your equipment go's and your questions ask away, you'll get lots of info.

Hey buddy,
Great to have you on board.I'm an expat Canadian living in New Zealand. Are we to surmise that your name signifies that you're a bad boy? Let's hope so...
B.C.,I bet that's cold.Are you dry suiting?Not cheap,eh?
I have a cousin who's just moved to Vancouver.I was last there in 1970.(I was young then.)Well feel free to blab the boards and ask whatever you want. There's some pretty smart people surfing this wave.Chow from the gasman.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

My name? It just means I'm just another angel...no...really..... What really bugs me about my name is that I've been using it for years, but just recently a band came out called the Black Halos. I may have to sue.

I'm not diving dry, yet. I intend to get a dry suit sooner or later but they tend to be a bit expensive. I did my OW in a 2 piece wetsuit and I was fine underwater. It's the surface interval where I was really chilled.

I'm working on buying a BC right now, so I'll be asking a question in the BC area.

Hey Black Halo,

As a fellow newbie, my main suggestion would be that you not rush out and buy all of your gear right away. It's not until you get some post-class OW experience that you begin to understand the type and configuration of gear you want. Talk to lots of other divers, surf the web sites and try things out via rental before you buy -- you'll be much happier in the long run. I was certified last May and still haven't bought my first reg or computer yet -- I spent most of last summer trying different models out.

Have fun and welcome!

Welcome from the other side of the country. Well alomst the other side -- Remora's actually the other side, I'm just in the "hot air" (aka Ottawa). Looking forward to hearing about diving on the coast.

Hello from not so far away Seattle. I am so right there with you on the cold water diving!!!! I also did my OW in a wet suit in November. I really want to get my Advanced cert, but not up here. I'm throwing around the idea of going to Hawaii in June with a good friend who is an instructor as well. He said he would cert me in advanced while we were there. Bonus!! I'd love to chat some more with you, since we are so close in proximity and age.....by the way, happy belated birthday!!! Mine is comming up in July.
