This one does not mention lobsters, so that may not have been their focus? Mini season ends at midnight tonight, and it's been quieter than some years.

Scuba diver drowns in Pompano Beach
A scuba diver drowned Tuesday in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue were called to the area of 1000 S. Ocean Blvd. just after 11 p.m. in response to a man who was found unresponsive on the beach.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King said Douglas Jones, 52, and a friend were diving off the beach when Jones told his friend that he was in trouble.

The friend said he carried Jones from about 10 feet of water to shore and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Jones was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives do not suspect foul play in the drowning.
