I recall an article last year where a leopard seal killed a researcher in the Antarctic. If I recall correctly the seal grabbed her while she was snorkeling and pulled her under to her death.

Thanks for the info on the show.

Thanks for the remember..

Thjanks for the heads up ,I'll try to catch the show.

hmmmm discovery channel/animal planet likes to view things as "cold blooded killers" even though they are killing to survive, and are warm blooded. :D

It was interesting that the leapord seal was menacing at first with the diver, but the diver held his ground, letting is camera housing take a couple hits. When the seal realized he was going to hold his ground, she became curious of him.
Towards the end of the program, they showed this same seal trying repeatedly to what appeared to be, share a penguin with him. Bringing it back to him a couple times, after it had escaped.

I did'n't realize just how BIG Leopard Seals got 12' and 1000 lbs

I wonder if the female Leopard Seal's purported attempt to share the penguin was some sort of courting ritual.

I completely forgot the show was on until I sat down and realized that I told my Tivo to record it like 2 weeks ago.

That was an amazing show last night. I agree with GSmith. It was very interesting how she acted towards the beginning and the end of the show. The fact that she appeared to be offering him the penguin was great.

I also liked the watching the penguins. They are funny to watch when they are out of the water just kinda hopping along the beach. But they are so fast and streamlined in the water.

The show had lots of pretty pictures but very little substance.

I must say the the diver was very brave. Either that or they were doing lots of work behind the camera that they didn't talk about.
I note very few male leopard seals in the show.

Of course, the photog was never alone in the water with the seals, somebody had to be filming him. :D

There also was no mention of the only creature in the world that scares the leopard seal, ... Orca.

Much the way the seal eats the penguins, the Orcas eat the seals.

Please don't think that just because one cute little female seal flirts with a photog that they are safe to swim with. The males can be very large and have little or no sense of humor.
I never got bit by a leopard seal but I had some close calls, and I saw what one seal did to several 18' Zodiacs at Palmer station and would not want to take a chance.
