Easy, they look for it in dangerous areas of the wreck, then put it into a goodie bag. Then, once the goodie bag is full, they get out of dodge before decompression sacks their energy and gas.
You left something important out. :coffee:

Oh right. Sometimes one has to actually dig for an artifact decreasing vis to nothing.

Also, the Doria is a privately owned shipwreck in international waters and is not subject to bottomland laws such as the ASA.

So the OP did it ? Or is on the way to do it ?
I am soooo curious about this. He first posted a couple years ago so it looks like he had the time to build up hundreds of dives to prepare and complete training. DM'd him but no response. I want to hear about his experience training and getting ready over the course of several years. Does anyone have his contact info??

There's also Deep Descent by Kevin McMurray. I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list. There are probably others, seems to be a pretty popular topic!

Thanks again for the Recommendations. Both were excellent! Thought I might return the favor. I just finished "Dangerous Shallows In Search of the Ghost Ships of Cape Code" I recommend this for sure. I see you're in New Jersey, do you know of any diving Near Sandy Hook?

Cool, I'll definitely check that out once I get through some of my summer reading backlog!

There are tons of dive sites off of Sandy Hook:

You'll need a boat to get you to them, there are a number of charters in NJ, and while I'm sure there are some that depart from more northern marinas, the only one I know and can recommend is the Gypsy Blood out of Point Pleasant. NJ diving is sorta its own thing and needs special consideration. For that, check out the NJ forum here on SB.
