So is it better to jump off the boat with the anchor in hand to set the diveboat or have a helper lower it into the water for you???

My bosses keep switching it on me...

Exactly how bad an idea it is to jump in the water with the anchor in hand depends to some degree on the type of anchor and how heavy it happens to be.

But regardless of the type or weight of the anchor, jumping in the water while holding a heavy and pointy object is a really, really bad idea that could serve to injure you, render you unconcious, put a hole in your BC or dry suit and take you to the bottom all at the same time in one easy step. If your boss switches to this method on some days, there must be some days when your boss does not like you or want to keep you around.

You may want to fill out your profile a bit, because a question like that on your first post with nearly no info in your profile is going to cause a lot of people to consider it a troll.

Id have to agree completly, jumping into the water with an anchor is probably a very good way to seriously harm yourself or your equipment.

dive safe,

It's perfectly safe as along as you have concrete blocks around your feet for stability.

Of course this is very bad idea! Set anchor, decend anchor line, THEN reset while at depth if necessary.

If you've got one of those plastic-covered anchors used on bass boats, pontoon boats, and other light boats, go for it. They're only a few pounds, so no problem really. But the best thing to do is to drop anchor, follow the line down, and THEN move the anchor around as needed. If it's really heavy, you may need to lift bag it to get it neutral.
