I was just reading another thread and was wondering if there are portable instruments that analyze an airfill for pollutants? I know when I get nitrox I personally analyze it for the correct % of O2, but when I dive on air, I really don't do anything and assume it's fine. It would be pretty cool if there was a portable instrument that tested air easily.

There is but it isn't cheap.

Here is a link to a recent thread on CO testing device.

http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/236043-carbon-monoxide-tester.html

CO probably the most common dangerous gas.
I wish that one was still available. Scubatoys carried it at a clearance price of $50, but they're out, the manufacturer is out, he has one he kept for his own diving, but he says it would cost $140 today to make one so we're looking at $200+ retail if he did. He's not.

Analyzer-ExpeditionCO was suggested, and I did find retailers offering for $330-400 but see Swamp Gas post...
Notice the fine print which states that one must purchase a regulator and CO calibration gas which will cost anywhere from $250 to $300 depending on supplier.

We calibrate quarterly and bump check the unit with 10 ppm CO before each dive session. The calgas is about $3/minute to use.
Also found this one from that 2004 post for $140 Aeromedix.com - CO Experts Model 2004 Low Level Carbon Monoxide Monitor/Detector and this one for $219 InspectorTools

Then I found this one: Carbon Monoxide (CO) instrument, monitor, detector $129 - still reading. Starts registering at 5 ppm which is about where I want to call the dive anyway. I'm waiting to get more info on the Model 300 and an alternate model; the person I talked with referred me to another who was out.
