I have a Canon FE-360 with a PT-044 housing. I'm looking for a slave strobe that will work with that camera and housing... Any thoughts..

Thanks

I think you mean an Olympus FE-360.

Have one of the "Ops" people move your post to the Olympus section.

Strobes run in the $500. plus range

These are two inexpensive strobes:
Bonica
Olympus

Neither of these strobes uses a fiber optic cable. They detect the light from your camera's strobe. The problem may arise when you block the camera's strobe from being in your photo yet leave enough light to trigger the slave strobe. I'm sure it can be done with some creativity.

Just be certain whatever strobe you get has a setting for pre-flash and non-pre-flash cameras.

Look around for an old Ikelite MS strobe. It will do only a full power dump but works the same way as the ones above, firing when it sees the camera or other strobe fire.

I have one that I use with my Ike 160 for fill in.

I have a UFL-1 and it is a POS. Doesn't fire all the time even when you have a fiber optic cable attached. It over heats. The batteries would get so hot that they would burn your hand when you removed them. I was convinced it had a short and sent it back to Olympus for repair. Came back doing the same thing. If interested in this type of strobe I'd go with the YS-17. While this is cheaper than the Ikelite you have to consider you also need arms and a tray which gets you to the same ball park price as the Ikelite.

Thanks guys, I will eventually upgrade my camera and housing but want to run this one into the ground first..
I do want to get a strobe that I can use with the new camera when I buy it..

Thanks again
