Four of us are flying to Egypt via Amsterdam, with a 12 hour layover there. Peter and I, several years ago, booked a temporary hotel room near the airport, which allowed us to shower and take a nap before going back to get on the next flight. But we can't remember which hotel we used, and can't seem to find one that will do that. Does anybody know if there is any hotel which offers this any more?

When are you comming over/passing by.

btw.Hotel Mercure does have the best rates NEAR the airport.

I had a friend who stayed at the Yotel inside Schiphol (within the secure area). He said it was a "different" experience. Each room has a comfy bed, shower, TV, fold-out desk, and wifi...but not much else. Apparently, Yotel rooms were modeled after a Japanese capsule hotel, so space is at a premium. A curious design element is that a completely transparent glass wall separates the sleeping area from the bathroom. Cost varies with length of stay (€55 - €100; minimum of 4 hours). Slightly cheaper to reserve online.

TSandM,

I usually go to the KLM club and take a shower. There is also limited free food and beverages. The KLM club has compfy chairs that I have fallen asleep in more than once over the years. Granted it was free for me because I am a Platinum elite. But you can purchase a day pass for cheap on ebay or at the lounge. Almost all the airline clubs have a shower available.

The last time I was there in March I took a 4 hour tour of Amsterdam. I hadn't been in town for a few years, so it was fun to see the town again. There is a kiosks for the tours in all the terminals. They escort you though customs and will keep any carry on luggage in a locked bin. I do enjoy just walking around and see the different terminal shops and food.

Hi,

Perhaps this would suffice: citizenM .com
(It seems I'm not allowed to post links??)
I stay there occasionally; it's really close (3 mins walk from Schiphol's hall 3)
It's not too expensive, has a power-shower and a good, large bed, and you can come and go whenever you like.

Hope that helps!
