I can see this catching on with other airlines...

Buying food, drinks, headsets? Have a credit card next time you fly

FORT WORTH, TexasÍ Credit cards will soon be the only payment accepted on many American Airlines flights for passengers who buy food, beverages, headsets and other items.

Beginning Monday, the airline said it will not accept cash on flights within the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada.

A spokeswoman for the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline said a "cashless cabin" will make transactions more convenient for customers and flight attendants.

Cash will remain the only payment accepted on commuter planes operated by American Eagle and AmericanConnection flights.

So this is as low as it gets. You can't even spend US money on US flights, on a US carrier. They need to go back to just letting you have the POS meal in your ticket price. Nothing worse than paying through the nose for a meal that they raved about during the infomercial at the start of the flight, only to find you can't even eat it after they serve you. I wonder if they would take Honduran coins?

I haven't carried cash since Debit Cards were invented...

The new US currency is being printed with this:

This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private, except on airplanes.

This prevents theft from both customers and employees.

It's easier to steal a cash bag than an electronice credit card transaction.

The untold reason is that when the plane goes down they lose the money, but with a credit card they get the money if the plane shows up or not.

Yep, that's the ticket.

Yeah, because when an airplane crashes, the $600 or so they can preserve from onboard beverage sales will really make a difference...:shakehead:
