Did a couple dives at Amed's Pyramids dive site today and counted 8 species of angelfish...maybe a personal record for a single divesite or day. The conditions for spotting were near perfect with 25-30 meter visibility, only the slightest current, and 29° water temperature. The smaller species are generally found shallow on the reef (3-7m) while the larger ones are down deep at 15-25m around the artificial pyramid structures and the sandy bottom.
Species seen:
Erbil's
Bi-Colour
Pearl Scale
Key Hole
Regal
Emperor
Yellow Mask &
Six Banded.
In all cases, there were multiple specimens. Two Hawksbill turtles, one a 70-80cm sub-adult and the other 120-130cm, ripping up and feeding on chunks of the reef coral (and completely ignoring me) at 7 meters on the second dive was an added bonus.
When you're visiting Amed, be sure to include Pyramids on your diving itinerary.
