Peter as a local instructor, and former competitor which dive operator offers GREAT customer service, quality mid sized dive boats and smaller groups? We will be visiting the caye for the first time and quality and safety are our highest qualifications. We are 4 divers with 25 - 50 dives each. We have mixed feelings on diving the Blue Hole...depth and LONG, often choppy boat ride. What is your opinion...worth it? What type of conditions can we expect in mid November re viz and overall weather? I appreciate your honest input.

Peter, sorry to hear about Pro Tech. Enjoy independent teaching! :cool2:

As for dive shops, I have used several and really enjoyed the easy going nature and great customer service at Ecologic Divers. Suyapa is a great person to help coordinate your trip.

Best of luck to everyone (formerly) with Protech.

JCF,

We are also from AZ. Thanks for the input. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

I used Ramones twice, was very happy with them. We didn't stay there but a little further south. Good DM's, usually around 5 or 6 divers per boat. Lockers right on the dock to store your gear.

Well Donna you are probably already booked and/or through with your trip to Ambergris Caye by now. Maybe you are under water as I write this.

Anyway, we had a group of 14 divers dive with Ecologic Divers in April and they were great. Steve Lee and Suyapa did a great job of helping me set up the entire trip and took excellent care of us while we were there. Very personable and accommodating. As a large group we pretty much had the same Dive Master and Boat Captain, Marcus and Efran (sorry if my spelling is off), on all but one of our dives and they were great. It was nice to have a crew that genuinely seemed to enjoy the dives as much as the guests. Very professional. The entire staff took excellent care of us. They also set part of our group up to dive the Blue Hole with Amigos Del Mar who also took good care of us on that excursion.

Would definitely recommend Ecologic divers. Steve is a supporting member of Scuba Board under the member name of Ecologic Divers (go figure). Also their web site of ecologicdivers.com has all the info.

As of yesterday Protech is no longer operating, and I doubt it will ever again function as a regular dive center. Several of us will continue to offer specialised tuition (not just regular basic courses) under the Protech name but using the facilities of other operators. This tuition will be for PADI, IANTD and BSAC.

The Protech dive center has closed and all the used scuba gear has been sold off.

Sorry to hear this. I was counting on Protech for a February trip. Is there any other technically-oriented facility in San-Pedro, in which one can rent twinsets and stages and get tmx fills ?

Ditto. I have the same question for a trip I've got end of next month. I was really hoping to do more than 8 minutes in the Blue Hole after a 2 hour ride out there. Is anyone running tech trips out there?

Thanks!

AquaDives bought my trimix compressor setup but they don't have anyone who can accompany you on non-standard dives. There isn't anyone here, unless I come along.

I'm afraid this is the old adage "use it or lose it" in action. I didn't have enough customers to justify the investment (or even 10% of it) and once my core business had been taken by another operator there was nothing left to subsidise it.

Hey Peter,

You looking for a dive buddy the weekend of Nov. 29 & 30?
