In 2010, the amount of sea turtle nesting sites in West Palm Beach set a new record. This year, according to reports, the amount has doubled compared to last year. What does that mean to us divers? Well, as the Captain aboard the Deep Obsession said yesterday, "If you don't see any turtles on this dive, you must have your eyes closed".

And he was right.

We dropped in on Flower Garden for the first dive and Breakers for the second. Loggerheads were the most abundant, with well into double digits on Breakers alone, although Hawksbills and Greens were also around. Breaker's reef ends at spot called, appropriately, Turtle Mound. It's a proverbial "parking garage" (thanks Laz) for turtles and offered up no less than 8 Loggerheads cruising by and/or taking a nap.

For those not familiar with West Palm Beach's reefs, or will be in the area any time for the next few months, it really is a great time for Turtles. The photos unfortunately, were not all that great, but they do depict just how many of these creatures you can see in just two dives.

Great turtle pictures, and fantastic to see the numbers have doubled.

Nice trip report and photos. Was that Capt Sean (dreadlocks)? Abernathy's crews are GREAT!
