Does anyone not use Sherwood regs anymore such as the magnum? I've been out of the sport for a while and rediscovering all the new brands. Are the new makes/models superior?

I use a Sherwood Magnum and my son has a Sherwood Brut. They're both excellent regulators.

There are plenty of old regs in service today. After reading more scubaboard you will find a lot of divers using gear that are over 30 years old.

As long as parts and service are still available, an old reg will perform the way it was intended to do.

I have never found a reason to buy a new set of regs to replace my scubapro g250/mk10 and the new regs do look good. Must say though that I did borrow some new regs and in general they did not perform so much better than my 20 year old regs.

Have your reg checked out be a tech and start using them again. You can always try the newer models and see if there is enough difference that you would want to buy new regs.

I would rather spend the money on diving.

I use nothing but Sherwoods. Funnily enough, I dusted off my 19 year old Brut the other day to use on my pony bottle, and it actually breathes better than my 1 year old Brut.

I guess like fine wines, Sherwoods get better with age.

We have a number of Blizzards and Oasis models in action.

There are some alternatives that have a little more finesse and breathe a little nicer if you put a fine point on it all.

For the average diver the Sherwoods, except maybe the Brut breathe as well as one would ever need. The other part of the bargain is reliability, low parts cost, easy service and world wide service that is about as good as it gets.

The newest addition, the SR1 is said to be truly top drawer.

Even old can be new again!

One more question for all the experience on the board...
When I bought that reg setup, I bought a Dive Rite Transpac w/Sport Wings II (first model line that I can tell.) It has Quick release weight pockets attached. Good for Rec diving? Overkill? Or did I strike oil on my first purchase. Thanks again!

Using an SR1 is a bit like dating a supermodel. They are pretty tempermental, and it takes a while to get used to all their foibles, but once you know the little tricks to keep them happy, they really are beautiful. I wouldn't trade mine for anything, although our relationship did get off to a slightly rocky start.

Have you dated a supermodel?
