am I in trouble?

I have been certified for over 15 years and have done hundreds of dives. I used to log every dive I did for fun ( I am a divemaster and used to work for a shop but never logged those dives ) and then about 5 years ago my computor (where I kept my dive log on a microsoft excel file :admingreet took a wrong turn and crashed:crash:. I lost everything dive log pictures files depressed::depressed: a very hard lesson learned now everything is double backed up) but back to the question at hand. I since then have not logged any dives, fun dives or dives for the county dive team. I will be going on my first "dive vacation" meaning to an actual dive resort with "guided" dives. Are they going to ask for a dive log to verify that I have done deep dives or will my divemaster c-card be proof enough that I know the difference between a "filpper" and a mask? I have talked with some friends and they all have differing opinions. I was just curious.

Even on my trip to Galapagos, the toughest diving I ever did, all I was asked for was my c-card (I have a rescue) and my EAN card to get nitrox. There was one trip in the Flower Gardens where the written material said they would check your dive log, but they never asked for it. I had to say to them "Don't you want to see my dive log?"
Your best bet, of course, is to ask the resort if the log is necessary.

Just a question...

Can you remember (not every detail, perhaps, but the most vital ones--depth, bottom time, location, partners, etc...)for a dozen or so important dives in the last year or so? If you can, create log entries for them on paper. If asked, present them.

I don't think you'll have too many difficulties, but if you're concerned about having the book, it might be worth the few minutes it would take to have peace of mind.
Of course, you might not have the verification signatures, but I have dozens of dives in my logbook that don't have those, and I've never had any questions asked even when I was asked for my log.

You can ask the resort, or if you say specifically what dive resort you are going to, someone has probably been there and can say if they might ask. But it is pretty rare to be asked for a log at a dive resort. Generally they only care about a c-card, and possibly even more about a credit card. I've almost never been asked for a log, and even if they do they don't actually seem to care that much. Possibly because they're not that meaningful anyway, partly because they're easy to fake. They'll make up their minds about you on the first dive. Occasionally if there are deep dives and the person only has an OW card they may care more.

Even if they ask and you don't have one it will probably not matter, especially if you have a DM card (though some people don't like to show a DM card lest they get pressed into service as a buddy for someone they'd prefer not to dive with.)

If I had a legitimate DM card (which I don't) and a dive operator asked me for my dive history I'd just tell him/her that my luggage was lost and my dive log was lost with it. If they didn't accept my story I'd go to a different dive shop.

In all the places I've gone, only one has actually asked to see my logbook, and that was in Australia, which has some more stringent rules about diving.

Do you use a dive computer? Can you call up the information from recent dives? Then, if the dive op is concerned about how recent your experience is, you can show them that.

I've never had a dive op ask to see my log book ... which is fortunate, because it resides on my home computer.

I haven't been asked for a log book since '95 or '96 when on vacation. I doubt you'll be asked for anything more than a C-card.

In the Red Sea you have to have 50 logged dives. I was in a pinch because my old Data max computer's battery finally died. My new computer had the recent dives logged but I was 15 short. So I remembered emailed my buddy from my last big trip (Galapagos) and re-created my log. She signed it all and I was fine.

Just telling you this to get an idea where you can get your dives logged.
