I am thinking about doing a NAUI ITC course at altons. Anyone been there, or currently work there, etc? I just want to know how it is there, and if there are any cheap places to stay close to the shop. Thanks a lot.

I was at Altons in March this year. There are several options for low budget accomodation. The cheapest one would be right on the Alton premises. If you want to have a bit more privacy I can recommend Ruby's Inn - within walking distance. Private room with private hot shower for ten bucks.

I really liked Altons and Rubys but I don't think Altons offer a Naui ITC course. You might want to email Julie@diveinutila.com, she will know.

Thanks a lot for the info, just what I was looking for because I am definitely on a tight budget. I've been in contact with them and they do certify Naui instructors. I will definitely look into Ruby's Inn.

Check out Utila Official Site - Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras - Tropical Island Paradise for other lodging options. We stayed at Freddy's, which was perfect for us and just across the bridge from Alton's, but at $16/night (for a bedroom with a double and a twin plus kitchen and bath shared with one other bedroom) it's not low budget by Utila standards. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the info. I am planning on going down there in september to get instructor certified so that is why i'm trying to get all this info in line. I will keep posting my progress.

Hi there,

I'm staying at Alton's right now and I'd recommend it. It's cheap (5 bucks a night) and as for your question about the NAUI thing, they do offer NAUI courses, don't know if the one you are looking for, is available there though. I think they offer free accomodation with every course!
