Just curious,
Has anyone been to Alabama Blue water quarry lately? what are the conditions like if so.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Viz got down pretty bad a few weeks ago (about 20’) but showed improvement last weekend. After a week of rain I am guessing that it is on its way back down. The surface was up to the mid to upper 70’s before all this rain and the first thermocline is about 24’ or 25’.

what were bottom temps? (that place is usually freezing).

I wish they would post the water temps (surface and bottom) on their website.

steelslinger:
Bottom is 54 degrees all year.

brrrrrrrrr !!! (shiver and teeth clattering......)

I've been spoiled by the warmer temps of the quarry up in Madison.

that large "north wall" I guess helps heat it up a bunch.
In late August and September, they get bottom temps of 74-76f

Of course Blue Water is deeper and has other benifits also ...

Weal Blue Water is only 100’ deeper than Madison. Actually, both quarries are usually within a degree or two at the same depth.

I was thinking about driving over this Sat. but it has been raining all week here and I'm thinking the Vis. is going to be down just about everywhere. What's the vis. usually like at Blue water after a week of rain? I'm thinking 15' or 20'.

Thanks,
Jeremy

The major runoffs that plagued Blue Water in the past have been for the most part cured. I might make it over there tomorrow and if I do, I will see what the surface looks like. I would guess viz to be around 20 or 25 shallow and 80+ deep.

"80+ deep"...WOW, wasn't expecting that. I usually dive in the local lake here in Altanta, Lake Lanier. I do know that below the thermocline there are 2 distinct things.
1. COLD
2. Very Clear Water

Ok, I've never been to ABWA, but will go Sat. to try it out. Looks like it is a couple of hours from me so it may become a new hole for me to dive a good bit.

Just head south form the sailboat and you will find 80’ viz and 150’ deep. I would offer to dive with you, but I have a class starting that day.
