The XTX50 is a great reg and that's a pretty good price from an LDS (or even from LP).

I'm not a fan of the Status version of the first stage though, it adds an extra pressure sensor and electronics (including a battery) that isn't needed. And the test mode only works when gearing up if you have the display facing up, which is the opposite of how you are going to want to set up the XTX50 to dive with (you'll want the turret side up instead). Even then, it only says LO or OK or HI or SVC.

You can solve the same problem for less than $25 with an intermediate pressure gauge that plugs into the inflator hose connection on your BC (recommended). Maybe slow sales of the Status regs explains the smokin' deal...

The Titan LX has one of the best and most reliable and simple first stages ever made dating back decades. The second stage, though plastic, is small and light and works well. The Titan LX performs on par to virtually any regulator at any price point and can be serviced any place in the world I would imagine. N

ditto

As you are in Northern Cal, I would go with the MK17 instead of the MK25. It is better for cold water.

The MK17/G250V would be my choice for scubapro in colder waters.
The Titan LX supreme would be better for cold water because of the environmental seal 1st stage.

Thank you all for feedback.

I ended up getting Apeks XTX50 status + Aqualung Legend octo :D

It seemed like a great deal especially considering it combined with a good octo. Unfortunately, they said they didn't have any standard XTX50, would have prefered that, but oh well...from the feedback it sounds like it should be great, definitely more than adequate for a beginner, so we'll see :)

my only gripe (if you can call it that) is that my xtx didn't come with set of smaller tees...i read they all come with it...so makes me wonder :shakehead: but i'd probably never use them, so no biggy...will ask the shop anyways.

thanks to all again for all of your feedback :lotsalove:

I have both sets. AL Titan LX is a workhorse and never fail on me. I use it for my PADI course as I leave them on the standard rig.

I use SP MK25s+G250HP when diving doubles. I went with SP MK25s for hose routing consideration (replacing my APEKS DS4s) and have to say that I am very happy with them as with my Titan LX.
