USAir has a non-stop flight from Charlotte, NC directly into Cozumel.

Good size plane, 6 passengers per row with center aisle. Didn't have a problem with them, but I'm flying to Coz through Houston this year on Continental. The San Francisco to Charlotte flight was just a bit long, plus on the way back home from Coz last year, we had to stop over in Chicago.

dnhill:
There are two flights out of Houston (IAH) for CZM. The first flight leaves at 9:15 AM and the second leaves at 12:06 PM.

That second flight is only on Saturdays, I believe. Sometimes there is a second flight back on Sundays, but infrequently.

Trisha:
Which airline do you usually take to Cozumel? And which airline scares the bejesus out of you?
I keep showing my husband the DAL (Dallas Love Airport) Continental flight, but the minute he sees the 2-by-1 seats to Houston he shuts down. Cabin noise! Puddle jumpers!
Of course, he's the only one in our family with any airline experience, so he should talk.
:)

If you live in the DFW area and are wanting a week or less on Cozumel, you should really take a look at Funjet. The fares are a whole lot less than what Continental charges, and if you can shop their last minute deals sometimes you can get there dirt cheap. Their flight times are good, too.

I'll second the recommendation of Funjet... just paid $149 ($238 after all taxes). That's a non-stop flight on United from Chicago.

I don't know how you can beat that price.

I have flown to Coz from Denver quite a few times in a variety of ways.

I have flown some charters (like Apple Vacations) with mixed results. The planes they used to use (not now) had the most uncomfortable seats I have ever encountered in my life. My most recent experience had reasonable seats, though. (I think those earlier seats are not in use any more because the CIA is using them for suspected terrorist interrogations.)

A couple of years ago I went over the spring break time period. It turns out Apple had every plane they owned scheduled, and one of them had mechanical difficulties. That created the domino effect from Hell. We were six hours late leaving Denver and seven hours late leaving Cozumel. In each case, Apple kept telling us that there was a small delay, and they kept extending it. It was not until later that we realized that when they were telling us about a "small delay" while we were in Cozumel, they knew damn well the plane was still in Denver.

I have also flown commercial flights into Cozumel on several occasions, and I have never had a reason to complain.

In past years, I have made the horrible error of flying through Cancun. On one of those occasions, three planes landed in rapid order, and all the passengers had to go through the two immigration lanes they had open (out of 12 available). It took several hours, and we missed the connection.

On another occasion, we got through immigration OK, but the only way for all the passengers to get themselves and their luggage from that part of the airport to our connecting flights was one guy with a Chevy Suburban. We were one of the first in our group to get to the departing flight, but we were too late. We were there 25 minutes before the flight time, but they said we had to be there 30 minutes early. The plane was full anyway--all the passengers who had missed the previous flight had filled it up. We learned that on a daily basis the first plane to Cozumel goes over pretty much empty because of all the delays, and each subsequent flight carries the people who missed earlier flights. The situation is relieved during the day by the number of people who say the Hell with it and drive down to the ferry out of Playa Del Carmen.

We have not flown through Cancun for quite a few years because of those experiences, so it might be different now. We take direct flights to Coz and are quite pleased.

We fly out of DFW every year and usually take a charter through FunJet, the airline is Mexicana and we have always had great flights, non-stop also. going with Continental you have to go through Houston and that just makes for a longer travel day. plus on the way home you have to go through customs in Houston an it always makes for a huge rush to make your flight to Dallas. we've done that one time, the flt. from Houston is on a small plane, like you said 2 by 1 seating, but the travel day was just a big hassle and the price wasn't any better than flying out of DFW, it just happened to be the only flt. we could book at the time.
American started flying non-stops to Coz this past year, we used them in Sept., the flight is quite a bit more expensive than the charters are of course. but again, a non-stop, like the charters, a little over 2 1/2 hrs. and your ready to get wet. you can also book AA through FunJet I belive.
MLT (worry free vacations) and Adventure tours USA also provide charter service.
The package deals (air, hotel & transfers included) are the best for your money.

I'll have to check out Funjet in April sometime. My wife's got a business trip to DFW and I've got a couple of free tickets from FF miles. I just looked at Funjet's site, and, if I lived in Dallas, I'd take them up on the $99 fare to Coz leaving 1/31 for 4 nights (Must have some excess capacity on that particular date).

Thanks for the tip.

If you can't get the non-stop from Dallas, try Grupo Taca. Yes, Grupo Taca. I flew them once from IAH to COZ and WOW, was I surprosed. Very friendly, nice lunch and FREE drinks for ALL, not just first class and not those tiny bottles. The stewardesses actually came through the isle with a cart with litres of rum, vodka, etc. and mixed drinks for everyone.

Also, smooth flight (even before they started pouring drinks ;) ). I used my American Airlines advantage miles and they are a partner, so DFW to IAH on American and IAH to COZ on Grup Taca.
