Out of curiosity I checked on the airfare from Phoenix to Cozumel (thru Houston) on Continental today and was very surprised to see the cost less than half of what I paid in August and November of 2010.

Round trip from Phoenix to Cozumel priced out (with all taxes and extras) was $382.00 from the end of February into March. I priced it several ways and lengths of time, from one week (Wednesday to Wednesday) to two weeks and it kept coming up the same.

I always have to spend the night in Houston (can't make the connection) so this was normal for me.

I was pretty shocked to see it priced so low, especially after adding in all extras except luggage. Does this seem normal for the end of Feb into March ?

I think I might have to get serious about booking a trip.

Dont look a gift horse in the mouth, just book it dude!:D

that timeframe puts you in the middle of 'El Norte' season....you stand a good chance of getting your dives blown out by cold fronts sweeping in from the north (US).

it's been norte season since oct/10

Got that right, half the dives on my 10 day stay at the beginning of November were.. "Closed Ports". It hit with no warning.
I guess you pay your money and take your chances.

The first 5 days were Primo though..:D

I wonder if the airlines take El Norte into account for their fares..:dontknow:

More like the very tail end. And besides, if you worried about that, no one would come here for several months of the year. Just had 3.5 days of port closures. Since I got here mid-November, there has maybe been one week total of days closed beside those past 3. Maybe a bit more, but not much.

...it's my position that the average tourist diver is better served not playing those odds, you and Kevin either own homes in Cozumel and are either retired with no job (vacation limits to worry about) or like Kevin, are still working, but have VASTLY more vacation time (and $) to not worry about the odds of getting blown out now and then....the vast majority of Cozumel divers are down there for the occasional weekend, where a couple of days worth of El Norte means their scuba vacation is toast! Just keepin it real here...... :)

I'm in Cozumel now. The port was closed yesterday, but opened around 10am... the sea has been glass for two days. On the days the port is closed you can dive the cenotes.

To each his own. I have owned a home in Coz the past 3 years and retired August 2010. But have been coming here for well over a decade and worked full-time at a very busy job. Yes, I had a lot of vacation time earned over decades of work with the same employer. But thousands and thousands of divers come down here every month in the winter and return year after year. Because they had a good vacation. So that is my reality.

hey bro's,, just look at the airfares from NZ and then look at how much we earn...

suck it up princesses :-)
