I found the Air Source: http://www.aqualung.com/products/air_source.html on clearance. I was wondering if it was a good product to buy. It is still quite a bit more expensive than a normal back-up regulator, but I guess it would cut down on the number of hoses that I would have on me. Does anyone have experience with it? Is it good? Pros? Cons?

Thanks

Its not that it didn't function well, or the fact that is breathes really bad - its just that service on it is very expensive, and my experience is that its very hard to get it adjusted just right.

I've had two - both have leaked at some point - on the surface and fine at depth, or at depth a little leakage. Both went in for service a number of times... never came back perfect.

Chucked mine awhile ago when I went DIR and changed rigs, and we just chucked wifie's not long ago. Went to the Atomic Z1 (eBay - great deal) as back ups and never looked back.

The whole "lose a hose" thing is overrated. A few years ago I bought into it - went hoseless and went to an integrated unit... 2 hoses. I was so cool. Then I started to dive dry (add 1 hose.) The I went to a real octo (add another hose.) Then I went DIR, added a 7 foot hose and added an SPG (2 more hoses.) I got more hoses now than ever before, and I'm just fine with it. They don't get in the way (when routed and stored correctly), set up just as quickly and it all fits into the same reg bag.

I recommend getting a real, servicable back up.
