What can I expect the average (high and low range) round trip ticket from Norfolk VA to Hawaii (Kona Int'l) to be? Economy class for sure. Summer travel.

Oh man, that's a toughie...

Airfare is constantly changing. Naturally it also depends when you come. During peak season the flight will be more expensive than out of season. It also depends how early you buy the ticket or if you get a last minute ticket. My guess would be the price could range anywhere between 600 to 1000.- bucks....Check Orbitz or Expedia...they can give you a very good idea of what you will be looking at at the time of your planned trip.

Oh there is www.priceline.com...where you can bid how much you are willing to spend...the hook is you have to pay then and there, no option hunting.

why not just type the cities and some dates into a site like Travelocity or Expedia and see? Travelocity you can select "Flexible dates" and just pick some months.

FYI ... if you can defer your dates by a few months, fares get pretty cheap in the Fall. Good luck.

and getting here can be a lot less expensive than staying here

fwiw - I have relatives who found fares as low as $400 ... but those deals usually are snatched up FAST - so if you find a good deal grab it. Last year I was helping my neighbors find fares for their college daughter - we found one for $700 (good price for summer) they waited a day and prices shot up to $1200 for the same flight ...

edit: All flights above were RT from East coast to Hawaii

ch0ppersrule:
it is cheaper to fly roundtrip from the mainland to here than from here to the mainland.

Isn't that the truth! It kind of chaps my hide when I'm searching for fares out to say, San Francisco - you see RT fares from San Francisco to Honolulu for $150-200 less than what we can obtain flying out of Honolulu.

I guess the residents of Hawaii are not unlike a captive audience.

I wonder what the one way tickets will run, hawaii to mainland? We're bailing out of a tour that goes through hawaii so we thought we'd extend our trip a few weeks. That means one way for us.
