We enjoyed the first week of May at the Sand Dollar Resort on Bonaire and had a great week of diving.

As a typical spoiled American, I was surprised that only the bedrooms were air conditioned. I must admit, however, that the flow through natural ventilation in the rest of the condo was comfortable most of the time.

I assume electricity is quite expensive there and that the air conditioning is limited to control costs for the resorts.

As I said, we enjoyed Sand Dollar and loved the diving and likely will return. However, I am curious to know if the other dive resorts are also bedrooms only for the air conditioning.

Thanks in advance...

I stayed at the Plaza Resort and the whole place that we had had AC....the 2 bedrooms, kitchen/livingroom/dining room combo that it also. I know that they are charging an extra for electricity surcharge now there.

Actually the majority of the resorts, hotels, small inns, etc have air conditioning in only the bedrooms, there are a few exceptions though, and make sure you check, most that do have air conditioning throughout and some with only in the bedroom are charging a $7.50 per night surcharge for electricity. What many do not realize is that we have WONDERFUL tradewinds, so basically unless you cannot tolerate any heat, air conditioning is reserved for sleeping only. Hope this helps.

It's easy for someone who lives in a place and is acclimated to the climate to say this. I'll grant that moving 90F humid air is better than still 90F humid air, but it's still 90F humid air.

(Yes I know there's tradewinds, yes I've stayed in a Bonaire condo with AC in bedrooms only, and yes that week was less pleasant for us than it would have been with AC. For me the least pleasant part was possibly listening to my husband complain, who is even less heat-tolerant than I am...)

Harbour Village suites are fully air-conditioned.

Buddy Dive is bedrooms only.

We had a wall unit in our living room in our 1-bedroom apt last year at Buddy. What I noticed most was the lack of lights or light bulbs greater than 15 watts. ;)
