I sometimes wonder how many of us in the Midwest have gotten certified in Pearl Lake? Chime in if you have.
Stopped into there today just to get wet...........Couldn't stand it anymore.....Such a great spot for beginners & advanced to get back into the dive season in the midwest.
Dive time: 10:00 am
Air temps: 65* Partly cloudy
Water temps: COLD.....61* above the thermocline (about 18') 53* after that. Since I am a BIG Baby when it comes to cold, I never got deeper the 25'.
Viz: about 20'
Fish life: The Sucker fish were spawning, I have never seen so many suckers in my life. All in about 15' of water. The bass were hanging out in 10' to 15' of water in the sushine, (trying to thaw out I think). I got a great picture of what had to be at least 8 lbs. Not many blue gills where we were, they must not be making babies yet.
Dive Time: 74 minutes and still came out with 1000 lbs. Too cold to do a second dive.....
All in all...a nice dive, I love Pearl Lake before the alage bloom....

Yes, I was certified at Pearl Lake. Did not dive it again until a couple of years ago. It often gets a bad rap from folks down here that end up more often at Haigh Quarry, but I enjoyed my return visit. I didn't realize it had suckers! That's one fish Haigh doesn't have.

My OW was at Haigh, AOW was in Subic Bay (Philippines) and I'm currently working on Rescue Diver at Pearl Lake (tomorrow if I don't kill the DM Canidate).

My oldest daughter is working on her OW there this weekend.

I enjoy Haigh alot more than Pearl. We live here and and dive where we can. My top 3 here in Ill. would be Lake Michigan, Haigh, then Pearl. None hold a candle to Key Largo.

I'm a Pearl grad. I just went to Haigh for the first time. I liked it but I don't think it was hands down better than Pearl. Of course I have only been to Pearl when it was 30' vis.

Am going to Pearl in about an hour and a half . Will be there around 8:30 Sunday 5/31. Black Durango , north end
