Hi anyone and everyone I just bought a new aqualung calypso today from the LDS and i realised there is not much discussion here about the reg. Maybe some comments and experiences?

Cheers Vic

It's a simple bulletproof reg. I have one that I use on decompression stages and I'm totally satisfied with it for my application. I've never had a chance to use it any deeper than 60ft/20metres so I'm not sure how it would feel on a deep dive.

The original US Divers Calypso was used in the 1962 Haneses Keller record dive off Catalina Island. It works!

The Calypso you mean bears little resemblance to it's modern namesake. The new Calypso is a robust unblanced piston with a state of the art downstream second. What I like about it (at least at the depths I use it at) is that the work of breathing is very impressive for a reg in it's price class. IIRC the 2nd stage isn't balanced, just well engineered.

P.S. Here is a picture of the 1961/62 Calypso.

I've got one out in the reg pile somewhere. The kids use it, and haven't complained yet, so it must be ok.

Thanks everybody for your comments. I now know more clearly that this is a reg mainly for recreational diving, which is as far as it goes for me. I considered this reg coz it fitted my budget and i researched that many dive operators use this reg as rentals and so i am quite safe in saying that there will be onsite "tech support" if the need arises.

Cheers Vic
