Hi All,

I am looking into booking the Utila Aggressor in Honduras for the end of the year. Has anyone been on this trip? Does anyone have any input into the Aggressor fleet (or any other liveabords that you may think would be better), diving in Honduras, etc. I am basically looking for a really good deal for a liveaboard for my dive buddy and I, the cheapest possible without comprimising good quality diving. We are also tech divers, and woudl like the chance to do some wrecks/caves, etc. along with regular reef diving.

Thanks!

Jessejean

I will be booking the same Aggressor trip in Dec and would need some info also. How's the diving, Temps, vis, etc.

I don't think you are going to find too many liveaboards that offer tech diving. One reason is dive times.... the boats usually moor at a site for 1 or 2 dives then move to another site during mealtime, making dive times strictly enforced. The other big reason is safety as if there is a problem, help is far away and the other passengers are not going to want to end their trip early to take the boat back into port. So your best bet for a tech diving trip is to post about it on the Tech Forum and see if they have any group trips listed.

I've seen the Aggressor twice, once off Utila and once off Roatan. In Utila, they were moored at either Lighthouse or on the Halliburton Wreck. Black Hills (imo the best south side divesite) would've been fairly close to them, it's a sea mount that comes to within about 40' of the surface. Epic dive, we saw turtles, about 100 barracuda, 1/2 dozen huge Oceanic triggers and several 3-4' grouper on one dive there.

We went right by the boat and since I've done the Nekton, I looked over the boat as we did. Seemed relatively new, I'd say it was built within the last 15 years or so. No one was on it at the time so I assume they have tenders - or were in the water.

I also saw the Aggressor moored out front of a house I rented on the east point of Half Moon Bay off Roatan's West End last year. Some of the better diving is in that area. They were there overnight, I'm assuming to let their guests tour the West End.

I know I've seen comments/pictures of people diving doubles off the Nekton. It's probably about the same money as the Aggressor and easier to get to as they leave part of the year from Ft. Lauderdale. We did the Cay Sal trip, there were some blue holes that were beyond rec limits - my buddy did a swimthrough at one that exited at 128'.

There were also some overhead obstructed swimthroughs along the edge of a deep wall at a couple of sites that looked to go a lot deeper than we wanted to go. One of the deeper dives on the trip is only done as a group drift, it's the only dive where they put a DM in the water with you. The Nekton drifts along behind and picks you up.

The one thing about the Nekton as previously mentioned is that they have a pretty strict 4 hour dive window as they move the boat during lunch often. So I'm not sure how deco would go over with them.

Every so often in the tech forum I see rebreather liveaboard trips discussed. That might be an option except then you'd probably be the one waiting...lol.
