I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced similiar issues with their Atmos Aeries Elite?? More specifically the software and downloading dives via the USB cable running Win. XP.

1. On one occasion, the dive computer indicates I've done a series of dives, but the software is unable to download or recognize the dives. So the software is missing some of my dives. The dives clearly show up on the dive computer but just not via the software. It's more of an inconvienance to manually enter the dives using the software but I also lose the air consumption data. :( I've just recently also encountered a dive downloaded ok but left the air start/end as "N/A".

2. My last grumble is that the software doesn't automatically calculate air consumption (SAC). I wrote the Aeris team about this and was told it's an enhancement for future releases..... LoL, I'm a computer engineer and that's the line we use when were just gonna sit on the request!

Anyone else have Atmos Elite grumbles? Maybe I'm just overly picky about what the software should/shouldn't do. The software should be just as good as the hardware.... just my not so humble opinion.

Finally, in defense of the dive computer (hardware), I absolutely love the ability to very quickly glance at my wrist and see how much air I have left, time left at the current consumption rate, have a safety stop count down timer and have only 2 hoses coming off my primary.

I have an Atmos AI, and, although a newbie, I have felt since day 1 that it was an excellent value, even as expensive as it was.

I was nervous (prob due to inexperience) about the wireless thing, and opted for the hose hookup instead.

Your comment about the SAC rate... BINGO! I am fixing to go into the NAUI advanced course, and it would REALLY be helpful, if I could get SAC rate, or even just average depth, from the unit itself. That's my only complaint... and it's a relatively minor one.

Mongoose,
If you happen to be in the market for a dive watch, the Citizen Hyper Aqualand will record your dives, download to a PC and, at the watch, give you your average depth of each dive. Makes it very easy to calculate your SAC at the dive site.

Thanx, K, that looks like a terrific watch...but at $329, it's not exactly affordable for me. Rather, I have been considering getting an Atmos I (on sale at my LDS for $165) as a backup to my Atmos AI, and just doing without the avg-depth thing for now. I posted a note asking about it this morning.

I calculated my SAC using my aeris on a dive with a lot of swimming and found it to be at about 30 (bleccch). Can I just use that in my calculations for the time being and be pretty close, if not conservative? Or would doing that be A Big Mistake?

Besides, I know that I'm a newb, and use a *lot* of air. If I go into the water with 1800 pounds, I'm going to be hitting my turn pressure pretty quickly, so if I come out, I get a fill before going back in, or if a fill isn't available, I just don't go back in.

With my low level of experience, I feel that if I am going to spend money, I would rather have a redundant computer rather than the ability to perform a calculation on-site that I could calculate later.

Sorry for the novel, but I am just trying to explain my dilemma.

Thanks very much in advance for everyone's input.

I'M NOT THAT FAR YET, BUT MY P.C. SOFTWARE IS XP , I FEAR THE SAME PROBLEM.
I HAVEN'T EVEN BOUGHT THIS COMPUTER YET, MY RESEARCH IS FINDING SOME BUGS.

I Have Been Reading The Posting's For Alittle While Now And Decided To
Join In . I'm Ready To Buy A Hoseless Wrist Mounted Computer, I'm Leaning
Toward The Aeris Elite. I Have Found Some Posting's On This Website That Were Very Good. This Will Be My First Hoseless Computer , I Would Rather Not Make A Expensive Mistake . I Was Told By A Sales Person That These Unit's Don't Usually Register A Signal From The Transmitter Out Of The Water, So Finding Out Your Air Pressure Is A Problem If Your On A Boat .
I Was Told I Would Need A Pressure Gauge To Check My Tank Out Of The Water, Because The Transmitter Signal Carry's In Water But Not Air .

Well I Don't Know , Is This Guy Just Trying To Sell Me A Pressure Gauge
Help, Sos , Help Anyone Out There With Hoseless Computers Or+++++ Aeris Elite , Do You Real Have These Problems Or Worse ??????? Please Reply Thank You For Your Time Mike

I dive the Elite and have some issues with the software but than again i just use the software to check my profile and make sure i was safe during the dives, plus the profile picture thingy is kinda cool. That said I am not sure what the salesperson was talking about but i have never heard oof a wireless comupter that doesn't transmit out of the water. Now it isn't all together a bad thing to have a back-up SPG like a small one that is tucked away but accessable in an emergency.

Hi there Mike - The statement about the wireless transmitter not transmitting out of the water, just isn't true. I have no problems with the dive computer hardware or transmitter. It's just the software isn't very slick. When you first initially turn the computer on, it establishes communication with the transmitter. The PSI flashes 000 for two seconds and then immediately reads the tank PSI. I like to set the dive computer close to the transmitter, while gearing up. I have never had a problem getting the dive computer/transmitter to tell me my PSI before hitting the water. There's no way in heck I would dive not knowing how much air is in the tank. I feel confident every time I dive, that I know what my computer is reading and do not use a PSI gauge.

While underwater, I have no problems. If it loses signal you just bring your hand a tad closer to your body. I think it has at least a 2-3 foot range. The Atmos Elite is fantastic but my only minor gripe is the software. If you are diligent about logging your dives and air consumed, you probably wont need the USB cable or software interface.

One more item, just in case you were wondering - the atmos elite computers transmit via different serial numbers. One of my dive buddies has the same exact computer but we never have problems. The computers are able to see their own unique transmitter via the serial number "code". His dive info doesn't "bleed over" or interfer with my dive computer's info.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck!!

Well
I have test out my new Elite and I am happy , everything is just as I have been told so far . It only takes a few seconds to link back up with the transmitter after reseting
the computer by pushing the button on the face and scrolling back to the main screen,
and of course keeping your computer with in 3 to 4 ft of the transmitter.

Lexy, would be nice to have that updated air usage graphed out at the end .
