Hello,

I just purchased an Aeris Atmos ai, and started to play with it at home. I noticed there is no plug on the top where the pc link plugs into - just an open hole for the plug. Is this correct, or is there supposed to be some sort of rubber plug in this hole while diving? I would call the dive shop, but they are closed already and this is gonna bug me all night. :)

Any input from other Atmos owners would be great!

Thanks!

Hey chip AZ, I could answer that for you, but first I would like to welcome you to ScubaBoard. OK. I have the Atmos 2 and it's download cable opening is open. I find it a little odd that it is not plugged, but what the hey, hasn't been a problem. I do rinse it very thouroghly after every dive, especially the compass bezel.
Sleep good my friend.

Thanks for the QUICK reply David!

I have been lurking on this board for a few months just quietly reading in the background, but today was my first post. Your fast reply is just another great reason to frequent this board!

Thanks again for putting my mind to rest! I can sleep well now! :)

Thanks again.

Happy diving

You are welcome, enjoy your new (toy) Atmos dive computer, the download & software are in need of an update, but for the most part it's a nice set up.

Read in the manual that the ai uses 2 of the pins in the COM port for water activation.

That's correct, without those pins exposed it can not water activate....software needs an update very badly, I had about 30 dives logged on a laptop, now tried to transfer to my desk top and none of my records showing up. I am not a computer geek but I have installed a lot of programs on my pc's, never had issues like Atmos's program, very poorly designed. I am ready to sell it and switch to Suntro or Mares Nemo.

Cheers...

It's pretty bare-bones and clunky. However, you don't have to use it to do anything but download from the computer. You can get an aftermarket program such as ScuBase which will import dives from the Aeris/Oceanic software then do a MUCH better job of manipulating and displaying the data. For example, it has fields for equipment used such as exposure suit, tank size and material, etc. It will compute SAC. The graph can be set to show different sorts of data such as nitrogen loading, remaining "no decompression" time, PO2 and O2 exposure time, all sorts of stuff. I think anyone with one of these computers will be happiest if they view the software that came with the unit as merely a download utility and use something else as the actual log software.
