Advise Needed: Lighting of weary subjects

Am putting together 2 upcoming trips with the expressed desire to shoot video of Mola-Mola (in Bali) and Thresher sharks (in Malapascua). The issue I'm having is that both subjects are reputed to be very weary, and not to fond of lights Can anyone confirm or deny this? Personal experiences would be much appreciated. If you've gotten video of either, would love to know how, and what tricks and tips you might have.
