Hi,

I'm about to buy a pressed steel E7-120. I'd appreciate any advice re: the proper wing size for this type of tank. I currently have a OMS 45# (lift) single bladder wing. Is this too much lift? Not enough? I'll be diving singles with very little extra gear (no camera, reels, tools, etc.).

Also, does this sound like the right tank for a newbie? I'm interested in a HP din tank with good capactity. I'm 6'6, 245, so I think I can handle the size. After I get more experience, I'd like to add a pony or think about doubles...

As always, thanks in advance! Can't wait until I actually know something about scuba so I can be the one posting the advice!

You'll hear some people rant about streamlining and how you should dive with the minimum wing size for what you are doing and others that say there is no big deal in going from 36 lbs to 45 lbs.

You'll also get a ton of people that will tell you that OMS sucks and buy Halcyon.

You'll also get a new group of people that heard the outline of a lawsuit and now are boycotting Halcyon and may suggest you still burn your OMS wing and buy Oxycheq , Abyss, or Diverite.

If you are really lucky you'll find another group that say cool. OMS is aight.

How fickle we are as a species.

I would give you advice but with a nickname like class action you can forget it.

The only thing I would be worried about with the OMS 45# wing is the taco effect it might have on a single cylinder.

You will be better off getting a wing that is specifically designed for use with single cylinders. (I'm not mentioning any names due to the fact that some people will get upset if I actually respond to a thread and RECOMMEND something)

I have the OMS 30# single tank bladder for singles and use it with steel 80's, 100's, and I'm going to try it with a steel 120 next week. It's more of a doughnut than a wing, supposedly copied off the Halcyon design. I don't give a ship about the war between the manufacturers since all my gear comes from all the companies and it all works fine. Are you diving an AL or SS bp? dry or wet?

Thanks to everyone for the advice, except D33ps1X, who is able to judge my character from my screename alone!

PS: I have a AL BP and I dive wet.

I have a couple of E7-120s I am using, and I've just ordered an Oxycheq 45# wing. Probably more than I'll need considering I'm about 8 inches shorter than you and about 80 lbs lighter, but it will be with a SS bp. I suspect the 45# OMS will be sufficient. The oxycheq 45# is the same profile as their 30#, so I went with the larger lift. I haven't got mine yet, but will let you know as soon as I have a chance to take it for a spin.

The nice thing about a Halcyon or Oxycheq singles wing VS the OMS is that the former are donut style wings. You can't get air trapped on the left or right since the air can flow through the top or the bottom. I also hear that trim is better with the former, especially the Oycheq, but I've never dived anything but the Pioneer.
