Hi Guys:

I'm currently diving with a Hollis S38 Wing, which has 38lbs of lift. I'm considering going with an Oxycheq Signature Series Wing with 30lbs of lift capacity. The wing is more streamlined and would be easier to vent. However, my gear pushes the lift capacity of this wing to nearly the limit. Would you recommend staying with my Hollis S38 Wing or moving to the Oxycheq Wing, based on the following information. I can possibly move 2lbs to my weight belt from the trim weights but still leaves me a very tight margin. Have I overlooked something that would favor the switch to the Oxycheq wing or should I stay with my current wing?

What exposure protection are you wearing, wet or dry? Off the cuff I'd consider re-evaluating your need for that much weight just for trim and/or a switch to heavier fins. If you are using light fins you'd be surprised what a few pounds out on your feet will do, may be able to eliminate that trim weight altogether.

I think wing is OK and no need for replacement

- You could switch SS backplate with Alu.

- you can drop STA with integrated STA in wing or even replace with ''combo alu backplate '' (M works like STA)

30lbs is a lot of lift for a single set -up.

if its not enough you are very overweight somewhere.

I politely disagree; 30 lbs can be quite marginal if you are wearing a dry suit with thick undergarments. Remember the wing not only has to float your gear at the surface, but it also has to compensate for all the lift your exposure protection can lose.

I dive a somewhat similar setup, with a stainless steel plate and 6 lbs of camband weights. I would not try to cut the lift that close. Your 38 pound wing is not THAT much bigger than a 30 lb, but you have a much better safety margin with it.

And if your're ever gonna sling a pony or other gear take that into account........you'll need the Oxy 40, nice to have your chin out of the water waiting for the boat and waves not breaking over your head;)........I use the 30 but generally zero or very light exposure protection.

I would say that Oxycheq MkV 30lb wing with tank mounted does NOT provide 30lb lift with tank mounted. I have Oxycheq MkV 40lb and Halcyon Eclipse 30lb. In my back to back comparison dive, 30lb Eclipse floats me above water higher than MkV 40lb. I used the exact same gears for both dive except the wing. Tank is HP100. I have two 3lb on lower cam band as close to the plate as possible. This may be one reason restriting MkV wing fully inflated.

One more thing with MkV wing. The intermal bladder is a lot bigger than outter shell. So in term of venting, it can be slower at time. I can show this to you if you want.

In term of streamline, MkV 40lb is lower profile than H 30lb wing. If you are going to Oxycheq, I will suggest to giwth 40lb version

Is 30lb is enough in Monterey? I think yes.

Dont waste your money. Remember that you need to get your head high enough out of the water in the event you surface during bad seas.

Why risk your safety for a "cool" looking wing. Its about function.
