I am also new to scubaboard. Will be traveling to anaheim ca soon .any advice for a new diver? Planning a trip to Coronado isl one day Any advice on something closer to anaheim?

Coronado Island is in San Diego County... about 90 miles or so south of Anaheim.
How much time do you have? Looking to boat dive? or do you wanna beach dive?
If you have the time, I'd say find a local boat, maybe in the Long Beach area, and do a day trip to Catalina Island. Or Jump on the Catalina Express in Long Beach, and dive Catailna Island's lovely Casino Point. Either way you win.

Did you mean to refer to the Coronado Islands (Islas Coronado or Islas Coronados) in Mexico instead of Coronado Island in CA? The former involves diving, whereas the latter probably includes touring the Hotel del Coronado. :-)

I'm not a huge fan of dive trips going out to the Coronado Islands. It takes a while to get there from Mission Bay (San Diego) and along the way one passes superior dive sites (Hogan wreck, any dive site in the Point Loma Kelp beds). The one redeeming quality of the Coronado Islands is that there are many beginner-friendly dive sites with shallow bottoms (35-60 fsw).

If you're going to be in Anaheim, why not take the ferry across to Catalina Island (Avalon)? It's a fun place to spend a couple of days. The Underwater Dive Park at Casino Point is ideal for beginner divers from out-of-town. Rent gear at one of the local shops, hire a DM (if you feel so inclined), and get your tanks filled on-site at the Catalina Divers Suppy trailer. There's a convenient staircase with handrails to facilitate entry/exit. Underwater navigation at the Dive Park is a piece of cake. I can't think of a better introduction to CA kelp diving.

[Edited later: I see that Captain12Pk and I are in agreement.]

Welcome to the 'board!!!
See that you call yourself a "vacation diver"....the best way to get local information and opinions, is to drop on down to their local forum and check it out and ask the locals. Great advise so far and for more hit us here: SoCal - ScubaBoard

I too, think the Casino Point "park" in Avalon is a great place so get wet in our waters. let us know when, and I'm sure someone on the board will be diving the same place and time you plan.

Thank you, I am also traveling w/my own equipt. 7m ,hood booties... Iam told all are necessary? Iam definitely considering Catalina Park

While the dive park is nice with the ferry costs going up, and up, it is making less sense to go there. To go to the dive park you pay for the ferry, parking, food, air fills and possibly a cab ride to the point and back (around $100 total). Boats are usually about $110-$120 and will take you to several, possibly better, and certainly less crowded dive sites.

That said my avatar does have me floating over the wreck of the Valiant in the dive park, so I am not entirely against it, but it is not the bargin it used to be.
