I try to be a forgiving customer, as anything can go wrong and anyone can have a bad day, but this is too much. If you internet shop for cheap car rental deals, you may run across Advantage Rental Car and think "cheap rates, all the cars are new, why not? Here are my experiences...

Sept '04: I rented a car from their Lubbock station for a road trip, as I always prefer putting my miles on a cheap rental car more road ready than my old pickup. Some will caution to check your rental car out closely before you leave, but this is a competitive industry and other car companies have generally given me such good cars that I don't bother. I'm in a hurry with my time away from home, so I grab the car and zoom. :auto: But they gave me a vehicle with several mechanical problems, resulting in one written warning from a Trooper, and I wondered if they'd just forgot quality checks entirely...?

Oct '04: Gave them another chance in Houston. Kept me waiting two hours beyond my reserved time. :11: I asked them why they didn't just refer me to a competitor and pay the differences in rates, as is the custom when car companies cannot meet promises. They kept stalling me, and finally got me a car, albeit not the car I reserved.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Gomer Pyle.

June '05: Those memories had faded, I reserved a car for a friend, to pick me and a buddy up with dive gear and picnic gear. They downsized from a reserved Full-size to a Mid, which really cramped us up for this trip, and then we learned that we had no radio antenna.

I consistently see a lack of quality control in this company, and caution you to think twice before booking, much less driving away. I'll gladly pay $10 a day more to drive a car from a company I can trust..!!
