Hello scuba heads, my name is Sam,, from Newcastle,,

I did my open water in Sharma sheik, red sea, last year, now I want to do my advanced, and I think I want to do it in Thialand..

I was looking at Koh Samui or koh Tao, i heard the east coast was the best this time of year.. Does anyone have any ideas of good diving there, any advise or input at all? Best dive centres etc?

cheers,,

Hi Lims,

Thailand is a great place! Depends mostly on your budget, however as it's so cheap out there unless you're REALLY on a tight budget you should be fine, and if you were that bad off then you shouldn't be going anyway right? besides while some places are cheaper than others I'm think more of the transport/timeframe side of things.

Koh Samui you can get the plane (more expensive), or the bus (longer), it's the same for anywhere, but I bring this up because while I was out there it's amazing how many people overlook it. Presuming you know all this then ;) I'll continue with want you want hopefully.

The West Coast (Andaman Sea/Phuket) can be a bit rough this time of year, however even with this I'd still advise you to go there, and the conditions will make you a better diver, Koh Phi Phi on that side is also a great dive site (I saw more stuff there on each dive than I did the whole of my trip to the Red Sea last year lol). Also lean with Dive Asia, then remember you can always travel over to Koh Tao for some fun dives!

If you decide to do the Advanced in Phuket - definately go with DiveAsia, they are by far the biggest and most professional (priced mid - high), but there are so many 'cowboys' out there, stick with the reputation buddy!

Most diving on Koh Samui is actually done on Koh Tao (which I also thought was really nice!), and the days I dived had perfect vis! A good school there is Coral Grand

hope it helps

Thanks for the info Bluereef, I've thought some more,,
I'm considering doing my advanced straight away in UK, so that when I go away to Thailand I can just be free to dive wherever and not have to worry about finding good instruction. I gather the north east of England has some good diving anyway and conditions are sure to make me the best diver I can be. Do you think this is a good plan?
Also, I'm confused about the talk of buses and planes, I havn't thought about this much, I assumed I would get a plane and then maybe a bus to wherever I was staying??

Thanks team zissou, RIP Esteban and Ned
