Sure you can. You might have to cut some holes in the center web area between the bladder, but no big deal. I use a blow-molded plastic back-pack with a wing for warm water where the additional weight of a metal plate isnt needed. Many boat operators have a cow if you don't use some form of BC.
Back in the 90's a diver made just this device. It was lobster season and he was hell bent on getting some. At 130 feet he ran out of air ( leak ? ) no one knows because his equipment was never found. Yes, he had back pack with a wing. First he sucked the wing dry. Next he dropped his weight belt. But he was still sinking with steel tanks. he finally dropped his tanks and did a free accent. When he reached the surface he was almost dead, with no flotation device to hold him up. You can keep your BC's and wings. Remember they are attached to your tank not you.
OK, now...looks like someone mentioned that mixing modern with vintage is problematic at best. Please forgive my ignorance but why is it problematic? ...., I just truly don't know why.
Thanks again!

Sounds like you're trying to replicate the Gill Atwater wing.[
