Hi guys,

I've read a few opinions re: chest strap or no on a hogarthian / continuous weave harness setup.

I'd like to have one at least to start (probably not necessary but makes me feel more secure).

What's the best way to do that? I'd rather not add 2 O-rings. Can it be done w/ D-rings or just on the straps themselves?

Thanks,
Frank

Why not start with the simpler harness (no chest strap) and only add one if you feel it necessary later?

Seems the easier approach than adding every possible thing you feel you *might* need before trying what works well for most.

That makes a lot of sense. I've been trying to keep things as simple as possible - 3 D rings and a back bad are the only real extras aside from this.

For anyone who does use a chest strap, what have you found is the best way to add one.

You can find straps which will attach directly to the harness, no extra D-ring involved.

An example

I'd still strongly encourage you to try without one. A properly adjusted hog harness doesn't have much slack in the shoulders straps, so the extra strap won't be able to tighten anything that isn't tight already.

(For the record, I started my BP experience with a Dive Rite comfort harness - with a chest strap - and moved to HOG later as the extra adjustments and straps weren't needed).

If you decide it needs to be a permanent thing, the metal rings are probably thew best way to go. But if you just want to give it a try, why not fashion a chest strap out of duct tape fastened directly to the harness and the a couple of quick releases. If might not last more than 10 dives but by then you should be able to ,make up your mind

Duct tape scuba application number 127.
