Abalone shells

On my trip last week, I found a really nice pink abalone shell. The only problem is, it still really stinks. Is there any way to get the smell off the shell without destroying the beautiful surface?

I just got it home today, so no, haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the advice, this is exactly what I was hoping for.

I have several dozen. I put them in 5 gallon buckets with bleach and water. It cleaned up both sides and they didnt fade.

A week is SoCal sun pretty much takes care of it.

Take the lid off of your toilet tank, place the shell in there, and take it back out in a week or two.

I just use the sun to condition shells. They can sit outside and stink for a couple of days *Shrug*

Brought a shell back to shore once and it stunk so bad, the water that came out stunk up the parking lot YUCK! It got tossed far out on the beach...for someones dog to find LOL
