I bought an A95 back in February and it has not been used much and only been underwater once. I plugged it in after my last usage and downloaded everything. The next day I went to grab more pics off of it and it gave me "corrupt USB device." I know it isn't the compact flash card because I can plug that into my card reader, that is part of my printer, works just fine. I have tried the camera on 2 other computers and it doesn't even recognize it. Anyone else had this problem? I am not sure if it is common and I should just send the camera in or whether this is most likely a cable problem. I have had 2 other digital camers (one of them a cheapie) and have lots of other plug in devices (i.e. MP3 players) and I have never had a problem like this.

Any ideas???

I'd bring it back to Canon to fix it while it's under warranty before more problems surface. After repairing it, use a card reader, it's faster and saves batteries.

Did you download the CD program that comes with it?

I installed the CD Program that came with it. It has worked for 2 months on any computer I have used with it, whether it be my 2 desktops, my laptop or my computer at work. I plugged it in one day, went to open it up, it crashed "My Computer" on my desktop at work and then it started telling me Invalid USB Device. After a couple more tries it wouldn't even tell me about an error. I bought it through DELL since I get great discounts through my company there, so will just send it back through them. Hopefully they'll just send me out a new one.

you can try another cable first -- USB cables (and ports) are known to fail (that's why the name-brand "thumbdrives" come with a 4" extension cable -- that way the cable will hopefully fail, rather than the port on your computer.

The cable used is a standard USB Male 'A' to Male 'Mini-B' -- available at <k-tel voice>Home Hardware, Walmart, Zellers, Sears, Futureshop, London Drugs, Radio Shack and other fine retailers.</k-tel voice>

Thanks! I haven't played with too much on the USB stuff so I wasn't aware that was a standard. I will stop and get one and see if that works first. I hope that is all.

No problem -- it's actually very handy, as I carry one that's about six inches long in my laptop bag... and it's usable for the external floppy drive as well as my camera!

Cheers,

Make sure the camera is setup so that you are viewing the pictures to download. It will not download if the small vertical lever to the right of the screen is set to take pictures, rather than view them.

Thanks. I have done a few downloads with this camera and have two other digitals so they are pretty much the same when it comes to that. This is just the first one I've bought an underwater housing for.

It is definitely the camera though. I bought a new cable (wow $24 later) and tried it and still the same situation. The camera doesn't seem to want to connect at all and if I keep trying to get it to work, Windoze finally pops up with a corrupt USB device error.

I have one more trip to take that I want to use the camera on, as I can always download the pictures through my printer (which has slots for memory cards/sticks) and then it is off to Canon with the camera. I'll call them first thing Monday.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I'm just going to lose my new toy till they fix it or send me a new one.....
