Hello all,

Does anyone know if a 8gig SDHC card would work with this camera? and would it be compatible with CHDK?

I just received this 570 and wanted to use a larger card than the 16meg it came with.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I have a 16GB from Amazon for mine and it works fine. But it seems that only 4GB or smaller can be made bootable for the CHDK program. Does anyone know if it is possible to make a larger than 4GB card bootable?

I think 8 is OK, look it up in their specs--4 biggest I've ever used.........good luck with a good little camera, lol., has nothing to do with the owner(see my pics, if I can take em, anyone can)................

The 8GB SDHC card will definitely work in a Canon A570IS using the Canon firmware.

If you are interested in setting up CHDK to autoload on the 8GB card, you will probably have to partition the card into a FAT16-formatted partition containing the CHDK files and a FAT32-formatted partition where the RAW files will be stored. The problem is that Windows cannot format a FAT16 partition to be any larger than 4GB and CHDK cannot boot from a FAT32 partition.

There is a Flickr discussion thread about this at:
Flickr: Discussing CHDK on 8 GB and S5 in Canon PowerShot S5 IS
The poster who discusses the multi-partition solution is using a Canon S5IS, but I believe that the solution would also work for the A570IS.

I haven't tried this yet, but I will when I get the chance. Hope this helps...

Unless you're shooting movies (which I don't think the CHDK hack helps with), you're probably going to run out of juice on the two AA batteries before you fill up even a 4GB card. Is there some advantage to shooting with a 16 GB card over swapping a 4GB card (and batteries) after 2 dives?

Cards are harder to lose or break when they're in the camera.

Given the choice, I'd take one card for a weekend of shooting vs swapping out 2, 3, or 4 cards.

I just returned from the BestBuy with a 4 gig. I think that will be fine for now.

Thanks to all who replied. I'll be posting pictures, I hope, when we return from the Keys.

Please let us know how this works out for you. I was just in the 'Keys with my new A570 w/a 2G card... the card held out the batteries didn't.... if you're hitting the water or just out taking pictures, check you batteries as you don't want to miss a shot :(
