The internal flash works fine just use the diffuser, all zoom cameras with this long port have the the same issues, the A640 is no different, Canon did a great job in correcting this.

The pictures were taken with an internal flash only, the second come out fine with a diffuser.

OH Okay, that clears it up and makes me feel a little better! I just got so frustrated with the failing 95 I didn't want to start anew only to be frustrated for a different reason

Also about your blurred pictures on your A95...we are asking too much of these cameras without helping them with a focusing light. My A630's focusing works fine on those land test an very close distances.

You might have a point but it used to be good and now it blurs even on land for close ups or when I zoom in from a distance. I sent it for service but they didn't really fix anything. Had it not previously taken great shots I would just think it was me doing something wrong..but there is definitely a difference in quality. Oh yes one more question as far as memory cards what do you recommend? Have to upgrade those as well since 95 was CF. Thanks for all of your help

Pictures look ok, are you using a focusing light to help with the focusing?

Yes, I was, though I need to either put the red filter on the inon focus light, or use a diffused focus light, as the camera had a hard time focusing, it was hot spotting up close. Playing topside with the AiAF turned off also produced much more consistent focusing for close up macro.

Um...sucks? Love the little yellow crab, just fabulous detail. May I ask about how close you were there, settings etc (other than the strobe of course).

The little yellow crab is actually quite large - it was about the size of both my hands put together, I took it from about a foot - the internal flash will do a good job up to that point, as the power can be controlled, and you are still close enough to not get much backscatter.

The purple nudie is about the size of my thumb, and was shot from about 6 inches. My settings were F5.0 and 1/125 at ISO 100. that is with the external strobe set very low - and the internal flash was not blocked (I had no way to block it at the time) and un-diffused, so the settings will be fairly close to what the internal flash settings would be if you were to set the internal flash to full power. (the internal flash was set to 2/3 power).

The little pinkish crab is actually on the skin of a sea slug the size of a 12 year olds arm, the crab itself is about the size of half the fingernail on my pinky.

The shot itself was cropped (the others were not) which is why I love having a 10mp camera - it means you can crop quite a bit and still get a good image.

Z..
