OK let me try an answer lol.....I'm a naui instructor and tec diver (back mount doubles) I was recently certified with the sms thru sdi and my local hollis/aeris rep. I dive 80% deeper wrecks of the boat and want to become 100% comfortable with the sms before I do..........I bought the computer and with the back mount doubles you only need 1 transmittor.....With the sm you need 2 but I didn't buy the second yet. I was just playing with everything yesterday so there was no need. I wanted to see how the entry was off rocks and beach.......I actually don't see the benefit to using 2 transmittor with the sms because it won't give you an accurate time reading........does that answer all lol
I just got mine, and took it for a spin in the pool. At first, I was impressed: easy set-up, intuitive menus, easy-to-read display, and so on. Then into the water... After about half an hour, the computer froze. Kept displaying the same depth, air, NDC time info. Now I have 1975 PSI in the tank forever! After getting out of the pool, nothing changed. As I'm writing this, hours later, it's still in dive mode, tells me I am at 4ft., have the same amount of air, almost ten hours of NDC time, but only 53 minutes of air left... It doesn't even turn off the display to save battery. Tomorrow it's back to the LDS, and see what they think. But I am pretty sure I will use a full back-up console even if I get a fixed one.
