If you are going to post something on tripadvisor or elsewhere I really think you should treat it as a Marazul issue and not a Curacao problem. Let's say something gets stolen from my room at the Marriott in San Diego or Denver or Kansas City next month. Does that mean others should be wary of those states or cities or that particular hotel?

Isn't funny who isn't here???? So theft on one island is different than the other? I think this speaks volumes both places and you know who! For both a once of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

I know who you guys are talking about and If you keep baiting him, this thread might go for 30 pages like the other.......;)

Is there a crime problem on Bonaire and Curacao? Yes, its a crime that I'm not there now and just learned I can't dive for awhile and will have to postpone my June trip.

Well, the original poster (Franco) sent me a p.m. today that convinced me I should change my reservation from Marazul. So now I'm rushing around trying to find something else for the dates Feb. 20 - March 6 (14 nights). I contacted Lagun Blou, and they replied right away that they only had availability for the last 6 nights. Darn. I almost reserved with them initially a couple of months ago but instead decided on Marazul. Does anyone have any suggestions for Feb. 20 - Feb 28 (on Feb 28 I could move to Lagun Blou) or for the whole two-week period? The woman at Lagun Blou gave me the names of a couple of other apartments nearby, but I checked and these are full for Feb. I just sent e-mails to Bahia Apartments (on Playa Lagun) and El Sobrino. The latter would be a lesser choice because it's not on the water. I'd really like to stay on the western end of the island. That fancy Kura Lodge is way too expensive. I suppose one other possibility would be Habitat, although it has gotten quite a few bad reviews lately. Also, it's a long ways from any where, and doesn't have good kitchen facilities. There will be two of us, we are avid snorkelers (not scuba divers), need two beds, and will have a car the whole time. Any ideas or comments?

What a f'n joke. This sh*t doesn't happen in any other place I have ever been to and it's been a few.

Breaking into your room while you are asleep at night? This is the 3rd time I've read of this seemingly endearing little trait that seems to be a local tradition on these islands.

And don't give me any crap about crime happening everywhere and in the states and the rest of it...

It happens in 'bad' areas. We have good and bad areas in the states. It seems freak'n in the ABC's thieves are equal opportunity burglars.

I repeat, what a freak'n joke. Some A-holes breaking into your room at night while you, your wife and kids are asleep. Guess it's awesome they spare us and don't feel the need to slit anybodies throats yet.

Go ahead and flame me now for non-complacency or not showing enough love for the poor thieves just doing their thing.

We stayed here a couple years ago. It's in Lagun. My Dream Apartments

There's a tall, locked security gate and fat bars on all the doors/windows. It's relatively inexpensive also. My room had a queen and a single bed iirc. There are also interconnecting doors between each pair of units - for the price you could rent two. Kitchen facilities were a little minimal. I don't think the whole place is 5 years old, everything was new looking and clean in 2007.

It's not so apparent from the photos but it's up on a cliff so about 50-60' to the water. They do have a vertical ladder down to the water but I wouldn't with gear. A friend climbed down and said just offshore looked like great snorkeling. Nice breeze most of the time. In addition to your patio, there's another structure with a deck/bbq. on the roof overlooking the water. Outside shower for cleaning gear also. The five of us had the whole place to ourselves.

The Playa Lagun divesite is 2mins. away. Playa Jeremi is a few minutes the other way and it's probably 10-15 mins. to Westpunt. Lagun is a quiet area so get food at Centrum market in town b4 you drive out - there's only one small local store nearby.

Nice people own it, they met us at the airport and offered to escort us out. We were told by the owner, Sonia, not to leave anything in the cars at any remote divesite.

edit: I just saw that you're snorkelers. We did a dive at Playa Jeremi and coming back in I swam in among the rocks along the north side of the cove - it was almost better than the dive - lots of interesting stuff.

Also take a morning and drive east of Willemsted to the Caracasbai area, the Tugboat is one of the only wrecks I know of shallow enough to snorkel - it's 20' and right off the beach at Baya Bay.

It's probably closer to town than you'd want but we also spent a week at Piscadera Bay Resort They're 2BR duplexes with full kitchens, dining rooms, and most had an outdoor table. Some of the units have ocean views but it's a couple blocks to the water. We did drive to Habitat from there - it was probably 20 mins+ since PB is west Willemsted. It's convenient as it's about 15mins. from downtown.

Dave:

The two beds thing might be a small issue but you should check into AllWest if you haven't, and if that doesn't work, I am pretty sure Sunshine can get you taken care of...she has a lot of knowledge of the area. Worst case, you might end up on the East side of the island. I have heard good things about the Scuba Lodge, but never been there.

I feel the pain in your posting, but I am sure it will work out.
