Hello,

I understand than with a double cylinder we can make a long trip under the sea.
I read your forum and I saw people are against the mixed single /double cylinder wings. I thought the vast majority of my dives are in a lake and not too deep ( 30% are between 40-50m). Then I bought a single tank oxycheq signature #45 and now I ask myself what can I do with that? what is the real utility of a single cylinder wing over a classic BCD? Is there a unique interest to take a 15l cylinder and 7l O2? Can I use this oxycheq 45 sig wing with double cylinder?

Thanks in avance for replies

greetings from switzerland

The Oxy SS single-tank wings are great wings, in fact, many say they're the best. One advantage of them over a standard jacket bc is the extreme amount of streamlining you get. By getting rid of pockets, inches of padding, and other unnecessary items, your mass and bulk is reduced, which means it takes less effort to move and change direction in the water. Less effort = less air consumption.

The reason it's not good to use a single tank wing with doubles is because of the design of single-tank wings. They're a donut shap usually, and when you bolt doubles on top of them, the tanks lie almost directly over the donut's 'sides'. Because of that, they prevent you from being able to inflate the wing very much. Also, a double-tank wing wraps around the tanks and supports them, making you more stable. There's only one case in which you could even consider using doubles with a single tank wing. That's with very small doubles, such as 45s.

If you buy a double-tank wing, the 50-55# pound wings are very nice. Also, be sure you don't get a 'bungeed' wing like OMS makes. By studying the charts concerning the differences between bungeed and non-bungeed wings on OMS's website, there isn't really any benifit to them.

Dive safe!

Hello,

I'm not sure I need a single-tank wing, but rather a double tank 12l ... but anyway I received the single-tank one.
After the bad idea, a bad surprise...
I received in one box the oxycheq sig #45 with o-pack and two weights pockets. But no comments (books, user's guide)... to say how to hold the wing to the o-pack and where I must put the weights pockets.

Because it's saturday, no answer from this firm.

I would appreciate if somebody give me some hints and picture in a private message so that I can try this funny thing tomorrow.

thanks a lot in advance

François

Post script:

In addition, I asked myself if the choice of a #45lbs single tank for diving in lake with a 15 l tank (18kg) and dry suit was also a bad idea?

In addition if you want bring 6-7l O2 and argon, where do you put them?

best regards

François

The reason for not using a double tank wing with a single tank is that the wing will tend to wrap around the single tank losing it's ability trim properly.

As for mounting the Oxy 45, hold the plate with the narrow side up facing away from you. Hold the wing in the same manner. The holes should line up nicely. Just remember to use stainless steel bolts, nuts, and washers.

I hope I understood your question correctly.

Thanks for the answer.

Is there a special location for oxygen bottle, argon bottle, weight pocket? (sig#45 with o-pack)

And finally don't you think a #45lbs wing (in general) for single tank is not really too much in comparison for what we can do with this funny thing???????? ( :07: marketting :07: )

Best regards

François

Most people mount the pony or argon on their tank. As for a stage bottle, those are usually mounted on a sling and attached to D rings on the harness.

My weight pockets are the DiveRite 32s which go on the waist belt and are ditchable.

Some will say the 45 is to much lift for a single tank. But, would you rather have to much lift or not enough? Personally, I chose the 45 because I knew at some point I would be carrying more weight than the day I started diving with the wing.

All of my gear choices have been based on what I will be doing in the future not just today. That way I spend less money replacing what I have outgrown.
