Hi Apeks folks,

I just got the used Apeks XTX 100 today. Everything seems fine except for the Venturi lever/knob on the left hand side of the second stage. I tried to turn the lever but it seems stiff. The venturi lever on the octopus (XTX40) can be turned/adjusted quite smoothly, but the one on XTX100 second stage doesn't move quite smoothly but rather turn step-by-step. I do not know how to explain this... I mean it take much more force to turn. And instead of moving all the way from + to -, it moves in step like... click...click....

Is this normal? What could be wrong here?

The click...click...click is normal. For a while, Apeks built the XTX50, 100 and 200 with a ratcheting venturi lever. The concept was that divers may want a setting somewhere in between full + to full -. After a year or so, it was decided that the feature wasn't worth the extra cost so it was removed. The ratcheting venturi was never added to the octopi.

Even though it ratchets in steps, it should still be easy to move. If you acquired the regulator as used, it could mean that it is time for the o-ring on the venturi lever to be cleaned and lubricated. You may want to have it inspected by a qualified technician.

Aha, that explains it! Thanks a bunch! :)
