I hesitated to spend money on Dive insurance, since technically...my company pays for any medical care (including emergency evac) I need during my contract....but there are financial ceilings to what they'll do (the fine print will get ya every time)...so between that and the fact that I will dive during my vacation as well, I purchased a DAN plan. Seems to be well worth the money.

DAN gives much to the dive community and is worthy of support.

Nice to see all the endorsements.

Stay covered.

I am a DAM member and also carry the Preferred Insc. I am also looking at getting the Equipment Insc. Our club is also a sposcer of DAN and we have a Treasure Hunt every year where the procceds go to DAN. If you are interested please check out our site.

In summery, DAN is a great investment.

PS: Sorry for the misspelling's, I hated english!!!

Make certain you are purchsing DAN if that is what you mean to do. It's what I meant to do,but, ended up with the PADI sponsored program. I responded to a mail out they sent me thinking it was DAN. What it said was that they contributed part of the premium to DAN. I am bad about glancing at ads and seeing what I want to see. It's o.k. that I have this but I think I would have preferred DAN. Until I read this thread I didn't know there was a difference at all.

Either way I strongly recommend some type of coverage.

I have DAN insurance for myself and my son--Preferred Plan.

Two years ago we went to Eilat, Israel and dove the Red Sea.

Imagine my surprise when the dive shop insisted that I purchase "additional" insuance. I told them I had DAN insurance but they were adamant.

I went to another dive operator and no problem.

Local dive insurance is probably like purchasing additional liability insurance on a car rental. Your own insurance usually covers you but the car rental companies try to sell you more. It's a money maker.

Let the buyer...er diver beware.

I spoke to DAN and they were aware that Israel often does this and it may occur in other countries.

Get insurance. I was just on a trip where a diver embolized. Ambulance trip to a local hospital, a private plane to the chamber, another ambulance ride, and treatment in the chamber: reported by the diver, $65,000!! The high cost may be due to fact that this was Hawaii, where everything is expensive, but you get the point. This diver had no dive insurance, and I'm not sure how he is going to deal with it.
